Containers: Learn Which One to Use for Your Type of Cargo

Within your company's logistics process, transport is as important as the places where goods are stored. Among them are containers, so far the best and most effective option for the mass trade of products.
Definition of a container
A container is a unit where goods are stored and then moved from one place to another as part of the trade in food or merchandise. Most are built of steel, with a large door through which the goods go in and out, always under the highest security measures.
These boxes are generally moved by ship (an estimated 75% travel this way), and the rest by land, whether by train or heavy trucks. Their purpose is to make long-distance trade easier, with enough space to store as much cargo as possible safely and efficiently.
Containers are built to protect products from any outside factor that could alter their condition, such as rain, wind, impacts or pests.
Types of containers by use
For every kind of commercial transaction there is a container with specific attributes, designed to meet your logistics needs, whether your business is local or international.
Once you define the type of goods you are going to ship, you also choose the type of container to use, taking into account the dimensions and specific needs of your shipment.
Dry container
Also called Dry Van, it is the most widely used for transporting goods. Its size is standard and it is recommended for shipping dry products that need neither refrigeration nor a liquid container.
It comes in 20', 40' or 40' HC. The latter is called High Cube and is used for heavy cargo such as clothing, coal, oils, corrosive products, boxes, bags, machinery and furniture.
Refrigerated containers
These containers have a refrigeration system inside that stays active while the goods are in transit. That way, perishable food is kept in optimal condition until it reaches its destination.
This includes vegetables, legumes, fruit, meat products, vaccines, liquid foods and industrial materials.
